![]() This is only a partial listing of people that we have had to seek help or assistance from while on the road. I consider these observations to be as unbiased as possible. Mike ![]() ![]() In March 2002 while on our way to Daytona an asshole in a Dodge Pickup truck decided to try passing me on the shoulder of I-10 seperating me from my bike ( Mrs. Butterworth) sending me to the Hospital with an assortment of issues and injuries also sending Mrs. Butteworth to Pensacola HD where she would be pronounced dead. Bob Nordberg who was traveling with me left his bike there and got me home to Texas in a rental car and returned to Floriada a few weeks later to pickup his bike ( Wilson) and the departed Mrs. B. Pensacola HD took care of both of our bikes and stored them at no cost - some would say big deal , they could have stuck their hand out but they didn't - Thank you Pensacola HD !! they can be reached at www.pensacolaharley.com ![]() ![]() On our way back from Sturgis in 2003 I was insistent on changing my oil , it was almost 4,000 miles at that point and alot of hot Motor. When we got to Pikes Peak HD there were quite a few bikes there for repairs and service, when we told them we were "on the road" and needed our oil changed ( Four of us) they took us right in and we were on the road in about 75 Minutes !!! Thank you !!!! www.pikespeakharleydavidson.com ![]() ![]() In June of 2004 Chris Stanley and I Travelled from Georgetown Texas through the Smoky Mountains , up through the Mid - Atlantic States, through New England , went to Laconia, Niagra Falls and into Canada, While in Canada we decided it was time for an oil change . We pulled in to Rockys HD at about 4:45 P.M. they said "No problem" while changing Chris's oil they discovered his primary belt had about two inches of play beyond Spec. they made the necessary adjustment AT NO CHARGE ! The oil change was $38 in Canadian Money already making it cheaper than doing it yourself ,and probably averted a breakdown --- Thanks to Rocky's ![]() ![]() In June of 2005 the road took Chris Stanley and I from here (Georgetown Texas ) to Albuquerqie NM, Barstow CA, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, The Hoover Dam, The Grand Canyon , Phoenix and then home. When we got to Flagstaff AZ my Front brakes got real soft so we went to Grand Canyon HD in Bellmont AZ ( Just West of Flagstaff) The Service Manager informed me that this was fairly typical of a Flatlanders bike now at Elevation ( About 8000 feet ), they were going to bleed the lines and we'd be on our way. Once into the job they observed my front brake pads being down to about 10 percent left, instead of trying to "scare" me into more work they simply said "you'll probably be fine but you're going to need new pads when you get home" . Long story short, I had them do the pads and the line bleeding , $115.00 and only 45 minutes we were on our way !!!! Quality people, Quality service !!! www.grandcanyonhd.com ![]() ![]() After a Few days in Lake Tahoe with the wives Chris and I are off again , in Reno we stop for an oil change , drop the bikes off and are told that it will be about an hour, Chris also had some misfiring , we suspected fouled Spark Plugs this also was to be looked at . We returned about 2 hours later assuming that was plenty of time and having left cell. contact numbers , had no reason to think we had a problem . When we returned it took 30 minutes to come to the conclusion that they had not even checked Chris's spark plugs but had changed the Oil, On my bike they hadn't even changed the oil citing that I had a stripped oil plug and offered alternatives up to and including a new engine based on my Mileage ( about 67,000 at that time) I thought they were kidding , they weren't !! I told them to change the oil and wrap the plug with teflon tape and it would be fine , they did , Three and a half hours later and a $68 oil change ,need less to say we we fled Nevada with our wallets held closely . Reno HD, Thanks for keeping me on my toes !! ![]() ![]() Again, on our Lake Tahoe Trip My bike contracted a case of the shakes on I-40 and shook loose a nut and bolt that holds on the taillight assembly . We stopped at Barnetts In El Paso on a Saturday at about Noon, I went to the parts counter and they didn't have the part ,so I went to service and of course they didn't have it either , once we told them we were "On the road" they cannibalized the part from somewhere and we were on the road in about 20 minutes , no charge and the Tech. wouldn't even accept the $20 I offered to him directly. Thank you Barnetts , another day saved by someone going above and beyond !!! www.barnettharley.com ![]() ![]() This past Saturday 10/08/05 we Chris Stanley , Chris Bennett and I were in Big Bend National Park and at about 6:00 P.M. about 10 Miles from the Park exit My bike died , clearly either battery or alternator Chris Stanley pulled his battery and we limped my bike to Study Butte ( 10 Miles) this is about as far as you can get from a Harley Dealer in this country so I was a little concerned. I made Contact with Ralph Delmar , Owner of Cycletek in Terlingua (8 Miles away) he met me at 9:00 A.M. the following morning ( Now Sunday ), took my battery back to his shop , tested it , determined it was toast , brought me a new one , ensured my charging system was good and we were on our way at 10:15 A.M. , Ralph saved me alot of heartache ,Headache & lost time. If you go to Big Bend Take his Phone number with you its (432) 371-2560 Sorry no website - Thanks Again Ralph ,you took a situation that really sucked for me and turned it around , I owe you one !! ![]() ![]() On what seemed like the final stretch of our trip through the Smokies , Laconia , Canada Milwaukee... Chris Stanley Developed a lack of back brakes while riding South through Illinois, it was Saturday , early afternoon, we came to the conclusion that Chucks Harley Davidson in Bloomington was the closest Dealer , so we called ahead and with front brakes only (Chris) we made our way to Chucks , got Chris's bike checked in and I decided the turn signal that died on my bike somewhere in Michigan was worth replacing. They said it would take a while just to diagnose Chris's problem, we got some lunch and came back, the bikes were both done Chris's floorboard had cut his brake line , they replaced it. My turn Signal was $2.14 total , Chris's was more but very fair , done quickly and correctly. Experiences like this allow me ( Us ) to roam the United States like fearless fools attending the Church of the paved Highway and the School of the road !! ![]() ![]() My Wife , my Daughter and my two Sons . Without their support I would not be able to pull my packed bike out of the driveway a few times a year . My family knows that they are the most important thing in my life , but they also know that I , like them, need my time and my time is on the road.
