![]() Once again Bob Nordberg and I depart for Big Bend, and 8 Hours later we're in the French Quarter of New Orleans. We met in Brenham as Bob is now living down in San Antonio, we got underway and sailed through Houston and Beaumont and then Orange and into Louisiana. somewhere in Western La.we stopped for lunch , we hit a Cracker Barrel which is good road food , light on the grease and almost like home cooking. Back on the road we roll through Lafayette and then Baton Rouge where we start heading south towards the Big Easy ( A name ive never known the meaning of !) We rolled into N.O about an hour after dark , checked into a big Highrise Hotel about Three blocks from Bourbon St. Bike parking is a problem in N.O. , Even at the Hotels they were apprehensive about bikes , I Don't mean Biker unfriendly ,Im used to that , this was different, there must be alot of bikes stolen or damaged , because they were more concerned about their liability . We parked in a garage under the Hotel that was like Fort Knox. We called home to say we'd arrived and then headed out . We walked down to the French Qaurter , it was a Non Mardi Gras Wednesday , Its hard to imagine what its like during Mardi Gras. It was cool they had Draft Beer carts in almost every alley , you could get a 24 ounce Draft Bud for $3.00 without even goung into a Bar , what a Country !! We drank alot of "Street Beer" and then finally ended up in an adult entertainment Bar ( Strip Joint) ,it was just like any other, anywhere else , the street was more fun , so we headed back out. about every 4 beers we'd eat a piece of Pizza . There were Pizza places on almost every corner and they were the same name , so im sure somebody is making a killing on the Pizza . The Pizza was O.K., not bad , but not good either , but it did help absorb some of the alcohol and extend our night. We must have walked Five miles right in the Quarter, my feet were tired , I was drunk and quite full of pizza. we got back to the hotel about 4:00 A.M. The next morning we got going about 11:00 a.m after I drank the red bull that I always carry in my saddle bag I felt O.K. , not great ,but O.K. Bob on the other hand wasn't feeling as well as I was. We made it to Brookhaven Mississippi ( About 120 Miles)before Bob declared the day done at 1:00 in the afternoon, feling too shitty to ride. I felt bad for him , a hangover like that sucks but it was also kind of funny , Sorry Robert !The next morning with distance to cover we head North to Jackson and then West to Vicksburg and back into LA and ride hard , I had to be home that night so our lay up cost us some "Comfort" on the Third day. We rode pretty hard and I was back in Georgetown around 9:00 P.M. it was a good trip , but the moral of this story is only drink what you can carry with you the next day !! | Hero's and Villain's | Daytona 2002 | Sturgis 2002 | Sturgis 2003 | Laconia 2004 | Arkansas 2003 | New Orleans 2004 | South Padre Island 2002 | Daytona 2005 | Lake Tahoe 2005 | Big Bend 2005 | | Return Home | Map to Hare | Pictures from all over | Links | Contests and Winners | Rides | contact us | Upcoming events | The Big Kahuna Burger | Menu | |
